Introduction
I am Thaddeus Pope, an event photographer based in Japan. I have photographed more than 70 international multi-day events and conferences in Japan and abroad, including assignments in Japan, the UK, Spain, the United States, and the UAE. I work in English and am particularly well suited to international organisations, universities, and businesses holding events in Japan. I cover assignments across the country, especially Kansai and Chugoku, and am available throughout Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa.
TADO Visuals takes its name from Tado (タド), the name many of my Japanese friends use for me.

Approach
My approach to event photography is shaped by documentary practice. I am interested not only in the formal programme of an event, but also in the expressions, exchanges, and unscripted moments that give it atmosphere, character, and human presence.
I work quietly and unobtrusively, with a fly-on-the-wall sensibility, looking for the moments that best reveal the life of an event as it unfolds. That way of seeing comes directly from my wider documentary work, much of which appears on thadpope.com.
Experience
Across my event-photography career, including my previous role as Director of Visual Communications at IAFOR, I have photographed events organised with or associated with the Government of Japan, The Wall Street Journal, J. Walter Thompson, Merrill Lynch, the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, University College London, the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology, Virginia Tech, Osaka University, the University of Hawai‘i, and the University of Barcelona.
That work has brought me into contact with people across public life, academia, business, diplomacy, the arts, and civil society. My event photography has also appeared in Newsweek Japan and The Japan Times, among others.
