Website Design & Branding FAQs

Home >> Website Design & Branding >> Website Design & Branding FAQs

Intro

This page answers some of the questions I am most often asked about website design and branding projects, including scope, timelines, content, ownership, support, and related setup. If you do not see what you need here, please get in touch via the contact page.

Detailed terms are confirmed in writing at the time of booking. For formal transaction details, including payment, cancellation, and legal business information, please see the Legal Disclosure.

Getting Started

What kinds of businesses do you work with?

I mainly work with small and medium-sized businesses, independent organisations, consultants, studios, shops, and service-based businesses. The service is best suited to clients who need a clearer, better organised online presence rather than a purely technical website build.

Can you redesign or improve an existing website, or only build new ones?

Both are possible. Some clients need a new website from the ground up, while others need an existing site restructured, redesigned, rewritten, or improved so that it works more clearly and effectively. In some cases that can be done without rebuilding everything from scratch, but it depends on the condition of the existing site and what the project needs to achieve.

Do you work in English?

Yes. I work in English and am well suited to businesses and organisations that need clear communication throughout the project.

Do you only build in WordPress?

I specialise in building websites in WordPress CMS. It is the platform I use for this work because it is flexible, practical, and well suited to many small and medium-sized business websites.

How do I get started?

Projects usually begin with an enquiry through the contact form or by email. Once I understand the basic needs of the project, I can advise on likely scope, outline the next steps, and prepare a written proposal where appropriate.

How much does a website project cost?

Pricing depends on the size of the site, the amount of content work involved, the level of branding support required, the technical complexity of the build, and any wider digital setup included in the project. The pricing page gives starting points for common project types, and final pricing is confirmed in writing once the scope is clear.

Content, Branding, and Scope

Do I need to have all my content ready before contacting you?

No. It is helpful to have some basic information ready, but it is not necessary to have everything prepared before making contact. Part of the process may involve helping clarify what content is needed and how it should be structured.

Can you write or refine the website copy?

Yes. I can write or refine copy so that it is clear, well structured, grammatically sound, and appropriate to the business. That may include headings, page content, service descriptions, and other core website copy.

Do you offer SEO as part of the project?

I provide strong foundational on-page SEO work as part of the website itself. That includes clear headings, page structure, well organised copy, and image handling that supports the purpose of each page. Broader SEO strategy, ongoing optimisation, or more specialised marketing work is separate unless specifically agreed as part of the project.

Can you work with my existing branding?

Yes. If the business already has an established visual identity, I can work within it and build the website around it.

Can you help if I do not yet have a logo or visual identity?

Yes. Where needed, I can help with typography, colour palette, page style, and light visual identity support. If a more developed logo or brand mark is required, that can be discussed as additional work.

Can you help with images?

Yes. I can prepare and place supplied images so that they work properly within the site and support the purpose of each page. If image sourcing, photography, or more extensive image work is needed, that can be discussed separately.

What kinds of additional setup can you handle beyond the website itself?

Depending on the project, I can also help with domain-name setup, hosting setup, Google Business Profile, social account setup or alignment, and Mailchimp setup with branded email templates. Not every project needs all of these elements, and where they are included the scope will be confirmed in writing.

Domains, Hosting, and Ownership

Can you help with domain names and hosting?

Yes. I can help research, register, and set up domain names, and I can also help with hosting setup and technical configuration where needed.

Who owns the domain name and hosting account?

The domain name and hosting account should ordinarily be held in the client’s name or under client-controlled accounts. I can help with setup and configuration, but it is generally best for the client to retain direct control of those core business assets.

Who owns the website once it is finished?

The client will own the finished website and the core business assets connected to it, subject to the terms agreed in writing for the project. Domain names, hosting, and third-party platform accounts should ordinarily remain under the client’s control.

Will I be able to update the site myself after launch?

Yes, if you or someone on your side has the necessary skills to manage the website. WordPress is well suited to ongoing updates, and handover is intended to leave the client with practical access to the website and the core business accounts connected to it. If you do not have someone in place to manage the site after launch, ongoing support or maintenance can be arranged separately.

Process, Timings, and Revisions

How long does a project usually take?

A standard small or medium-sized business website project usually takes around 4 to 8 weeks. Projects that also include broader branding work, Google Business Profile, social setup, or custom email-marketing templates may take longer. The process page explains the full sequence in more detail.

What do you need from me during the project?

I usually need clear business information, timely feedback, access to relevant accounts where needed, and one clear point of approval wherever possible. Projects move most smoothly when feedback is provided clearly and in a structured way.

What usually causes delays?

The most common causes of delay are missing content, slow feedback, unclear approval chains, and changes to scope once the project is already under way. Third-party verification and setup processes can also affect timing where relevant.

How do revisions work?

Revisions within the agreed project scope are included. The number and nature of revisions will be guided by the written proposal and the needs of the project.

What happens if the scope changes during the project?

If the scope changes materially, or if additional pages, functions, content work, or design work are required beyond what was originally agreed, a revised quotation may be needed. Where that happens, I will make the implications clear before the additional work proceeds.

Launch, Support, and Terms

Can you help with Google Business Profile, social accounts, or Mailchimp?

Yes. Depending on the project, I can help with Google Business Profile setup, social account setup or alignment, and Mailchimp setup, including custom branded email templates where agreed.

Are domain registration, hosting, subscriptions, and third-party costs included?

No, unless stated otherwise. Domain registration, hosting, Mailchimp subscription fees, premium plugins, premium themes, stock-image licences, external platform fees, and other third-party costs are not included unless specifically included in the written proposal.

Do you provide support after launch?

Yes, where needed. Some clients prefer a clean handover, while others want occasional help, updates, refinements, or additional work after launch. Ongoing support or maintenance can be arranged separately according to the needs of the project.

How are payment terms handled?

Because website design and branding work varies by scope, detailed payment timing, revision terms, and cancellation terms are confirmed in the written proposal or agreement for the project.

Where can I read the formal legal terms?

For formal payment, cancellation, and legal business information, please see the Legal Disclosure.
